How far would you go in the name of love -- and justice?

Perfect Match

In the course of her everyday work, career-driven assistant district attorney Nina Frost prosecutes child molesters and works determinedly to ensure that a legal system with too many loopholes keeps these criminals behind bars. But when her own five-year-old son, Nathaniel, is traumatized by a sexual assault, Nina and her husband, Caleb, a quiet and methodical stone mason, are shattered, ripped apart by an enraging sense of helplessness in the face of a futile justice system that Nina knows all too well. In a heartbeat, Nina's absolute truths and convictions are turned upside down, and she hurtles toward a plan to exact her own justice for her son -- no matter the consequence, whatever the sacrifice.

4 stars Thought it was a good one 2010-08-07

I have recently become a fan of Ms. Picoult's work, but I have liked her novels so much that I have already read about half of them. The latest one for me was 'Perfect Match'. I enjoyed this book quite a bit, but was a little confused about what the author originally wanted the story to be about. It starts out with one main story, the story I thought this book would follow and finish with, but things take a turn about a third of the way into the book. The story still stems from the original premise, but it then becomes highly focused on the mother and her story rather than the original one surrounding the child. Don't get me wrong, I enjoyed this story and liked the outcome of it. I was just feeling like maybe the author wasn't too sure of where she wanted to go and kind of winged it a bit. There are some concepts and subject matter that may offend some readers (child abuse, molestation, etc.), so I wouldn't recommend it to everyone. I say give it a shot though...

I've read many Jodi Picoult books. Though I do love them, I found that you can't read too many in a row. They are way too similar.
Nina Frost an attorney who works with children who have been molested, finds herdelf in a difficlt sittuation (to say the least) when her own son gets molested. And by a priest no less. So what does this brilliiant attorny do? She shoots the preist!
This one took me about two months to read because it was very dull in the middle. Or maybe I'm just a know it all amd thougt I had this book pegged. After her son got mollested, I thought they catch the guy send him to jail. Right? Wrrong! She shoots him. So then i thought she'll get a really good atterney and get ou free. Was I right or was I right?
There was the issue with the wrong DNA crap. But that was only to supply Picoult with the surprise ending she always has.
So all in all not a terrible read just very predictable.

1 stars very disappointing-CONTAINS SPOILERS! 2010-06-30

I have loved reading Jodi Picoult books, but this one was terrible! First of all, she didn't even wait until the evidence was all in to be sure that the priest was guilty. She just shot the first guy that was arrested. And if she really thought he was going to get off (shouldn't she have known that DNA evidence would convict him?) and showed up later in the trial with a gun it might be have been more believable. Sorry...no matter how devastated a parent was, I really find it hard to believe that she'd show up at the ARRAIGNMENT and blow a priest away!

Next, I can't believe that anyone would think she should get away with this. Yes, she was upset and understandably so. I'd want to kill the person that raped my son and I wouldn't care what happened to me. But it's one thing for her to get off with shooting a pedophile in cold blood. This guy was completely innocent! What ever happened to justice? Why didn't the priest's family and church show up and demand justice for the murder of this man? Is there really a law that says because I'm really pissed I can just shoot any person I want? E.g., if my husband is the victim of a violent crime and I'm totally traumatized, then I can just go out and shoot someone? Someone who had absolutely nothing to do with the crime? I don't think so. Very lame book.

4 stars another good picoult book 2010-06-12

great book, but a little disturbing. i was sickened by some of the aspects described - the abuse and the murder were very well described. i couldn't put the book down though!

3 stars Creepy...but good. 2010-05-13

Overall this is a very good book but the premise of the book*spoiler*( a boy getting sexually asaulted by his Priest) is not something I want to read about. They just kept relieving it through the characters. I felt so bad for that little boy. It was a good story but I would never read it again.
